Microdot – The Exhibition

To celebrate 25 years of creative graphic design, photography and film making Microdot will be staging a retrospective exhibition of works from 1990 to present day.

Exhibits will include artwork for every release by Oasis and The Verve in the 90’s, plus promotional material for The Super Furry Animals, Cast, Suede, The Ruthless Rap Assassins and many more.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Monday the 25th of May – Saturday the 30th of May 2015 and will take place at The Old Courts, Crawford Street, Wigan, WN1 1NG. Click HERE for map.

Mon 25th 12.00 – 21.00 – Entrance £3 – pay on the door.
Tues 26th 12.00 – 21.00 – Entrance £3 – pay on the door.
Wed 27th 12.00 – 21.00 – Entrance £3 – pay on the door.

Over 150 exhibits will be on display in the stunning venue, an 1887 Victorian courtroom – still intact and in original condition, a second room – the old judges chambers which now permanently houses the Microdot Studio will also be accessible to visitors and will contain rare unseen items, the Microdot gold disc collection and a sales stand offering selected pieces for sale plus Microdot branded memorabilia. A fully licensed bar will be open throughout the exhibition and Microdot founder Brian Cannon will be on hand to answer questions about any of the exhibits.

The evening of Friday the 29th sees the exhibition space hold a special event, a talk by Brian plus a Q & A session – this will be followed by ‘The Microdot Brain Of Britain Quiz’, where all ticket holders will be invited to take part  – the winners receiving rare Microdot related prizes.

We are delighted to announce the world’s number one Oasis collector – Brian Garcia will be flying in from Texas, USA and bringing rare pieces from his collection to exhibit including Noel Gallagher hand written lyrics, the legendary Oasis ‘Union Jack swirl demo tape’ of only which ten are known to exist and a few more surprises. Long time friend of Microdot and The Verve obsessive collector Neil Handy will also kindly be showing some of his rare Verve memorabilia. Also on show will be original hand written lyrics by Richard Ashcroft, Oasis signed gold discs, original sleeve props, unseen printers proofs and never before published photographs.

Brian Cannon’s on going project ‘Northern Soul – A Photographic Journey’ which documents the contemporary Northern Soul scene in stunning black and white will also be represented.

Microdot was established by Brian Cannon in 1990 after completing a BA (Hons) degree in graphic design, Brian was inspired by punk rock and in particular bands such as The Buzzcocks and Sex Pistols in the late 70’s and set out at the age of 12 to design iconic record sleeves for the biggest bands in the world – a feat he remarkably achieved by his late 20’s. The accreditation ‘Designed by Microdot’ appears on over 70 million units of product worldwide.
